CLIENT
STORY:
From Scotland to England
Meet Sheena Mason,
Executive Coach:
Q: Why did you hire
a coach? What did you want to see happen in your life at
that time?
A: I hired
Kristin to help me find out how I could move from Glasgow
to London. I needed to create the strategy to make that
happen.
My main goal was to:
- Move from Scotland to England.
Q: What was memorable
or meaningful about your coaching experience with Kristin?
Would you change anything?
A: For me,
the most memorable aspect was discovering that I could do
anything I wanted. I also found that I was tolerating too
much in my life and tolerations (energy drains) are a negative
force in life. Removing my energy drains helped me move
on with my life.
Q: Why do you
think coaching works? What about it worked for you?
A: It works
for me because I knew I had to be accountable and it gave
me focus.
Q: What are Kristin's
strengths as a coach?
A: She
doesn't stand for any nonsense. She really brought
focus to my life and helped me find my authentic self instead
of the difficult and negative person I had become.
Q: Do you feel
your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or why not?
A: Yes! Although
I had quite a lot of debt at the time, Kristin helped me
find a way to go back to running my own business in the
learning and develoment field. I always wanted to coach
senior executives in Fortune 500 companies and thought this
was probably impossible. But hey, I did it, and with my
business partner now we have a client list to die for.
Q: What are the
tangible results of your coaching experience?
A: As a result
of working with Kristin, I was able to set myself up as
a freelance executive coach and very quickly won work with
Marks & Spencer in London. As a result of winning that
work, I saw an opportunity to build a tracking tool to measure
the effectiveness and return on investment of executive
coaching. I joined forces with Gordon Dunn, my business
partner, and created a company of our own. Our next step is to venue globally
and start working with the really big boys!
Q: What are the
intangible results of your coaching experience?
A: I think
the impossible is possible. I'm also aware of the laws of
attraction and use them a lot. It maybe doesn't happen quite
as I imagine, but the results are always a great gift. For
example, I seem to remember always wanting a man but never
being able to find the right one. As my thinking improved,
and without even looking, I met a wonderful man and he has
changed my life.

Comments
Sheena
represents one of the many clients I've coached outside
of the United States. When she initially contacted with
me with the desire to strategize ways to move from Scotland
to London, I was very eager to help. I have an affinity
for London, after having lived there myself for a year while
I was in college.
I understand the culture and always enjoyed coaching people
from the U.K., as well as other countries. Sheena was clearly
highly educated and talented. However, there were several
things weighing her down which prevented her from effortlessly
moving to London.
One question that came to mind was this: "What's preventing
your dream of moving from occurring naturally?" In
other words, what's getting in the way? Sheena's answer
echoed the same answer I've heard hundreds of times from
other clients -- debt. Debt and lack of clarity around the
"right path" for her career.
Sheena owned her own business and was reluctant to close
it down. However, sometimes that's the way to go. In doing
so, this gave Sheena the freedom to accept a position in
London. Closing down her business was no easy feat, however.
There was an overwhelming amount of documentation and paperwork
that filled an entire room. These are the types of details
that stop people in their tracks.
My theory is this: You need to blast through anything that
weighs you down. So we brainstormed ways to easily do that.
The solution was quite simple. Rather than spending the
next four weeks becoming well acquainted with her shredder,
we decided it would be much more efficient to simply hire
the professionals to get the job done. I'll never forget
the phone call from Sheena giggling while the team of professional
paper shredders were there in action. She was so thrilled
to have found an easy solution to a menacing problem.
I believe this was the beginning of a new way of thinking
for Sheena. Now she looks for ways to lighten any situation
rather than making things too difficult. As a result, Sheena
was ultimately in a position to pursue her dream career
full time. Today, she owns an executive coaching company.
Getting to this point required Sheena to take several steps,
such as closing down one business and accepting an employee
position. Everything was a stepping stone and Sheena joyfully
accepted that and went through the process.
Today, Sheena is an entrepreneur again and is enjoying
a high level of success and fulfillment.
