CLIENT
STORY:
From "Living to Work" to "Working to Live"
Meet Traci L. Bray,
Former Law Enforcement Curriculum Writer & Trainer,
currently working full time as a Medium:
Q: Why did you hire a coach?
What did you want to see happen in your life at that time?
A: After having
worked in a law enforcement-related career for over two
decades, I knew a change was in the offing, yet I was stuck
in identifying what direction to tackle next. I wanted several
things.
My main goals were to:
- Diminish the pressure of a tough career.
- Become economically sound.
- Do something different with my career.
At the time of hiring Kristin, I had not identified the
possibilities that existed nor broadened the scope of what
was attainable. In my early 40s I found that I had met or
exceeded my professional goals. My professional life had
been my main concentration for the majority of my adult
years. I was somewhat stumped as to how to set new goals.
Q: What was memorable
or meaningful about your coaching experience with Kristin?
A: One of the most memorable
and impactful moments of the coaching was the first question
Kristin posed, that being: What do you love to do? After
answering that question, she followed with: How much of
your time is spent doing these things? Those questions,
and my answers, dramatically shifted the direction of my
life and career. Another exercise that was an eye opener
was the balance wheel where I rated how full each area of
my life was.
Q: What are the tangible results
of your coaching experience?
A: Perhaps one of the most
daunting changes was chipping away at literally hundreds
of tolerations (energy drains) that existed. This was absolutely
necessary for me and it helped me free up the space to take
the next step. Today I'm a full-time psychic medium. Previously,
I was a curriculum writer and trainer for law enforcement
and a probation-parole officer. While working with Kristin,
I began to map out my Web site, www.tracibray.com,
and develop client mailing lists as well as identify professional
support. As a result of that, I attended a conference sponsored
by the University of Arizona and their Human Energy Systems
Laboratory. Recently, I was named as a Research Medium with
their prestigious VERITAS program. Incorporating my previous
profession into the medium-realm (by working some criminally-based
cases) has enabled me to not completely abandon that career,
and has allowed me to continue to make contributions to
it.
Q: Why do you think coaching
works? What about it works for you?
A: Coaching is targeted.
It is action oriented. It incorporates accountability. After
identifying my top three passions, I was able to envision
and develop what was to eventually become a dream come true.
Visioning was huge for me...A
tremendous life shift occurred with the incorporation of
visioning. I had grown up with a focus on barriers so vision
in the form of possibility was a new concept. Designing
a plan with action steps was incredibly helpful.
Q: What are Kristin's strengths
as a coach?
A: Kristin is...
- Highly organized.
- Educated, formally, including within her profession.
- Well read with current trends.
- Knowledgeable of living a balanced life.
- Resourceful.
- Cheerful and exhibits a delightful sense of humor.
- Positive.
- Intuitive.
- Able to identify strengths of client.
- Willing to state thoughts and opinions, and to challenge
the client.
Q: Do you think your coaching
dollars were worth it? Why or why not?
A: Absolutely. Not only
did I make a phenomenal career switch, additionally, I began
to make tremendous and positive life shifts. I moved from
a mode of living to work to working to live, and at the
same time my work is something that I truly love. There
actually are moments in the day when I think, "And
I get paid for this?"
Q: Is there anything you want
to say to someone who is considering coaching?
A: Yes! When I hear a client
reticently accepting their life as is, utilizing Kristin
as a referral immediately comes to mind. Coaching from Kristin
truly shaped my life as it is today, and supplied me with
skills to propel me into my future. She gracefully aided
me in coming to terms with my talent, skills, passion, and
aided me to develop a framework for implementing those into
a plan.
Coach's
Comments
"Follow
your bliss." Do what you love and the money will follow.
You've probably heard this a thousand times from self-help
books and career experts. Well, yes, it is true. However,
sometimes it takes real courage to follow your bliss. I've
coached hundreds of clients to make a career transition
and it's not uncommon for someone to initally feel uncomfortable
with their passion. How will the world receive me? What
will they think of me? If I take the path less traveled,
will people call me crazy? These are some of the thoughts
that float through many people's minds.
Traci is a superb example of someone who pushed through
those fears and decided to create a life and career that
is the fullest expression of who she truly is.
Having worked in law enforcement gave Traci the opportunity
to use her gift of clairvoyance in criminally-based cases.
She loved her work within the criminal justice arena, and
was very successful at it.
When I first spoke with Traci, we talked about what really
mattered to her. Helping people in the most authentic way
was very important. Traci's natural gift and ability clearly
needed a bigger platform. So, I coached her to transition
from her job and onto the path less traveled.
